Two teams both buried in the eighth spot in their respective divisions battled it out Sunday night in Tempe, Arizona.
After the Coyotes scored first on
Clayton Keller's first of three goals, the Flyers stormed back to take a 2-1 lead on goals by
Morgan Frost and James van Riemsdyk. Both Philly players had an excellent game with each of the forwards collecting one goal, three assists.
The Yotes then went to work to take a 3-2 lead on goals by Keller and
Jack McBain. On the McBain goal, Flyers goalie Carter Hart opened up the 5-hole to match the size of the Grand Canyon.

The Coyotes netminder, Vejmelka has been pelted with 87 shots over the last two games. In this game, he faced 41 shots, turning away all but four. He has had to stand on his head making save after save.
While, the Arizona club has come away to two one-goal victories, you can't allow your goalie to be peppered constantly. Eventually, it will catch up with you.
The Flyers battled back to tie the game in the second stanza with a goal by young
Owen Tippett. The goal was scored at the 18:42 mark. This showed a weakness on the Coyotes defense allowing a tally so late in the period.
They would repeat that flaw again after Nick Ritchie's goal when they allowed
Travis Konecny to get one by Vejmelka at the 17:43 mark. The Philadelphia net was empty as John Tortorella pulled Hart in favor of an extra attacker.
That late period goal forced the two teams into overtime. The Flyers have not had much luck in the overtime, so the Coyotes felt confident they could come out the victor. The Flyers are now 0-7 in overtime games.
Flyers head coach Tortorella commented, "We've got to get that figured out, we battled back three times tonight. Now we've got to figure out end of games, figure out how to score that goal."
One final note, on this game. Flyers beat writer Giana Han had some disparaging comments about the Coyotes TEMPORARY arena. Not too certain what she expected, but it seems she didn't realize that the arena was small (since it is a college university facility).
Therefore, the media section will be close to the ice, which I'm not sure why that is a problem. Most media in other full-size arenas are stationed in the rafters... this writer knows since I have experienced it.
And BTW... the scoreboard HAS to be smaller by city code, since it must be a certain height above the ice surface.
The negative comments about Mullett arena have been excessive. The issue is most everyone making those comments doesn't have all the facts about why the Coyotes are playing there. Comeon, Giana... you're a reporter, do your homework!
She needs to come back in a few years when the new Tempe arena for the Coyotes is opened. There will be graphics on the ceiling of that building.
So, please everyone, stow away the negative hits about where the team is playing... it's getting quite old.
