Friday was a busy day for Flyers general manager Danny Briere as he began to extend the contracts of Flyers players he wants around for the long haul. As the Flyers begin the next step of their process and the trade deadline creeps up, Briere and the Flyers made sure to lock down another one of their young pieces.
After an eight year extension came for Owen Tippett on Friday morning, Flyers center Ryan Poehling was next in line to receive an extension. Poehling was signed to a two year extension worth $3.8 million, coming out to an AAV of around $1.9 million.
Although Poehling hasn't seen a ton of ice time for the Flyers this season, he has produced when called upon. His best moment came in December when Poehling scored two crucial goals in a 3-2 overtime win against the New Jersey Devils.
Poehling, only 25, is a great piece for the Flyers to have around for the next few years while they move into the next phase of the rebuilding process. Considering how cheap the Flyers got him for, this deal was a great decision for Briere and the front office.
