Flyers look to use their LTIR contract as leverage in trades.
With all rebuilding teams, one of the most important aspects of rebuilding is cap flexibility. The constant moving of players in and out of the lineup and the ability to add talent whether it's to use for the short term to build then back up to trade at the trade deadline for assets picks. They could speak to teams to bankroll some of their cap space to acquire an asset along the way.
It's expected that the Flyers will go in a completely different direction than there used to with everything available on the table. One such contract that has been plugging the Flyers for a few years is the
Ryan Ellis contract.
Ellis has been on LTIR for the entire season and will remain there probably for the duration of his contract. He currently holds a cap hit of $6.25 million which will stretch till 2026-27. One of the positive aspects of this contract is that it could be traded to another team that's looking to add money, especially at the trade deadline and going for a cup run Alice's contract is considered cap relief as he will not be able to play.

Flyers will be looking to May 8th as an important date in their history, as this will be the day the NHL draft lottery dictates which position they will be in in the 2023 NHL draft. They will also find out if they have a shot at budding superstar
Connor Bedard.
