During the 2022 offseason, it seemed as if the Philadelphia Flyers had a shot to make a splash in the offseason and land left-wing star Johnny Gaudreau who just came off of a 40-goal season with the Calgary Flames.

After the Flyers and ex-GM Chuck Fletcher failed to capitalize, Gaudreau landed with the Columbus Blue Jackets on a seven-year, $68.25 million contract.
Although the Blue Jackets have been disappointing and Gaudreau hasn't quite been putting up the same numbers as he did in Calgary, there's no denying that Gaudreau can play.
During his time in Calgary, Johnny Hockey appeared in the NHL All-Star game seven times, was a finalist for the Calder Trophy in 2014, and became the 11th United States born player to score 100 points in a season in 2022. Gaudreau also has six seasons that feature over 20 goals and 60 assists.

With the cap space the Flyers have, there's no question they'd be able to make the money work. The only question is what would both sides be willing to give up? According to multiple sources, it is looking like the Flyers would have to give up a first rounder and either two top players on their current roster or two top prospects.
Although league executives are expecting the Blue Jackets to be big time sellers, it still won't be easy for the Flyers to lure Gaudreau out of Columbus, but there's no question that the interest is mutual.
"I have a ton of family here, all my friends. All my good friends and kids who I have played with all my life are from South Jersey, so it would be sweet to play here someday. You never know in sports. It's a lot of support back here in South Jersey and the Philly area, they follow me pretty well."
