Flyers will look to pursue top free agents centres this summer

While the young players are getting some time on the ice, illustrated well by yesterday's win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Flyers are in need of some «high-end talent». If the team is serious about wanting to be competitive as soon as next season, they must acquire an elite level prospect or a top-quality player this summer.

The position that needs to be reinforced is at centre and a few names have been liked with the Flyers. Nazem Kadri, currently with the Colorado Avalanches is amongst the best pointers in the league with 82 points so far. While there is no doubt about Kadri's level, his age and price tag are probably too high for Philadelphia's needs. Being 32, Kadri will be looking to sign a long-term contract (6-7 years) and it's just not right with the Flyers.

If the Jets don't make the playoffs, they will be looking to «shake things up» according to TFP's David Pagnotta and this may well include Mark Scheifele. He scored 26 times and provided 39 assists this season. The Flyers could trade a quality defenseman for Scheifele and lock in the Winnipeg number #55.

If we look at younger options, the Jets also have Pierre-Luc Dubois to offer, he is 23 and at his contract end this summer. Dubois scored 51 points this season and could be a better option for the Flyers regarding his contract status and his promising future.

Finally, Detroit's Dylan Larkin has scored 67 points this season. Larkin's option may be the most expensive one, but he is 25 years old and has proved himself in the NHL. Detroit's GM has announced that he was «open for business» so we will see how Larkin situation will evolve.

Either way, the Flyers are in desperate need of a center and those options are the most likely to happen.
