Every year there's always going to be a 1st overall draft pick in the NHL. Unfortunately for some they don't pan out but also some are buried into a rough organization.

That's indeed the case for the 2023 draft and 17 year old hockey phenom Connor Bedard.
Bedard is the most anticipated draft pick since 2015 when the Edmonton Oilers drafted Connor McDavid. Bedard has been the talk of the hockey world for what he's doing for Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships. Bedard was tied with the Big E Eric Lindros for most points by a Canadian player with 31 points. Lindros, a proud Canadian, would give Bedard a special message on Twitter saying:
Happy New Year! Don't just break the record Connor smash it! Win the tournament #GoCanadaGo

Ironically Eric Lindros was the first overall pick in the 1991 NHL draft and like Bedard had a lot of anticipation for him going into that draft. This is where former NHL'er, and Co-owner and host of the Spittinchiclets Podcast Ryan Whitney made a intriguing statement regarding the possible situation Bedard could be facing.

Whitney has been critical of the Arizona Coyotes Franchise and how they tank due to the fact that hey play in a embarrassing size rink. Whitney would bring up that Bedard should pull an Eric Lindros if he's drafted by the Coyotes.
"If I'm Connor Bedard and they win itI 'Eric Lindros' their ass so quick, I ain't going. - Ryan Whitney
For those that don't remember Eric Lindros was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques, but refused to go and was eventually traded to the Philadelphia Flyers. We don't know if Bedard would do this, but what if?
What if Connor Bedard doesn't feel like playing in front of only 5000 fans? What if Bedard doesn't want to play for a team that's never going to be a contender? Could he really pull such a stunt, would the NHL allow it? I guess will have to wait and see but this could be very interesting.
