On Wednesday, former Philadelphia Flyers netminder Martin Jones, signed a one-year, $875,000 deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The veteran goaltender had one of his best years statistically in the past 4 years, getting a bulk of the starts with the Seattle Kraken. Martin Jones, held a 2.99 goals against average in 2022-23, the last time he was under 3.00 was in 2018-19. All though his save percentage seemed to lack, falling below .900. That is subpar for Jones, he has averaged below .900 since 2018-19. In the year prior he reached .915 but hasn't been able to reach that number since, the closest was in 2021-22 with the Philadelphia Flyers. He had a .900 SV% through 35 games, even with a losing record of 12-18-3.
Despite the solid year in Seattle, Martin Jones, no longer fit the Kraken's needs and therefor was signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Which is an interesting one; Martin Jones is likely a replacement for Matt Murray, who will be on the LTIR for the entirety of the 2023-24 season. However, the Leafs already have Joseph Woll, who is supposed to eventually be the Leafs' starter. But with the addition of Jones, it looks like the goalie tandem will be Ilya Samsonov with Martin Jones backing him up.
