Now, with the NHL on its third day of the new season, it was the Flyers and the Columbus Blue Jackets' turn to showcase the changes made during the summer to their fans and see if there would be a different result on the scoreboard.
As all Flyers fans know, the team is currently in a rebuilding phase and is attempting to identify who will be the new core of the Flyers moving forward over the next two years. Nevertheless, the team had to play a game, and it was certainly an exciting one.
The game began well with the Flyers scoring goals from Joel Farabee and Travis Konecny. During the second period, with the Flyers holding a 2-1 lead, Garnet Hathaway of the Flyers entered the Columbus zone and collided with Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski.

Following the collision, the on-ice officials convened and deliberated whether this would be called or not, as they were uncertain. After several minutes, the referees decided to give Hathaway a 2-minute minor penalty for kneeing.
In the end, the Flyers won the game by a score of 4-2, and Blue Jackets defenseman Erik Gudbranson took to the X platform to voice his opinion on what transpired.
These two have their history...
Time will tell if Hathaway will face disciplinary action for this hit from the NHL Player Safety Committee.
