In all likelihood, the Flyers will nominate their 23rd head coach in the history of the franchise really soon. As you all know, John Tortorella will (probably) become the new leader behind the bench, per multiple reports.
However, it doesn't mean that Torts' was THE guy for the Flyers. The organization offered Barry Trotz a very lucrative contract - that would've made him the richest head coach in the NHL - but he refused it.
And according to TSN Insider Darren Dreger, Trotz wasn't the only one who wasn't very high on the Flyers. He said on OverDrive that several coaches told the Flyers that they were willing to talk, but that the Flyers were not first on their list.
Would it have been the case 10 years ago? A LOT of coaches would've wanted to be behind the Flyers bench. But it isn't the case anymore. And you don't have to search too far to find the reasons why: bad results, poor organizational management structure and the pressure of the fans (which should be a positive thing for anyone who want to work in a great hockey market) are some reasons among many others...
