Over the past 30 years, Gary Bettman, the commissioner of the NHL, has been tasked with growing the game in the United States. This responsibility followed his role as the assistant to the late David Stern of the NBA. His tenure has been tumultuous, particularly with the NHL fan base, and he has failed to win over many supporters.
Nevertheless, he has introduced numerous events that have positively transformed the NHL's landscape. One such event is the NHL Stadium Series, where two NHL teams compete in university outdoor rinks or other professional sports arenas, such as baseball and NFL football stadiums. The aim is to attract as many fans as possible to one venue and provide them with the nostalgic experience of hockey from their youth when they played on ponds or streets during the winter.
