Earlier today it was reported that free agent defenceman John Klingberg finally signed a one year deal with the Anaheim Ducks worth $7,000,000

A move that has surprised many, its not because of Klingberg going to the Anaheim Ducks but more about the contract itself. Hockey Insider Kevin Weekes would share earlier this month revealed Klingberg was looking to sign a 5-6 year deal somewhere.
Sean Shapiro of the Athletic, for the Stars explained why Klingberg might not have gotten the contract he was seeking. Shapiro reveals how the 29-year-old blue liner was looking for a Seth Jones' type of deal but no team whether that be for cap issues or that they didn't see Klingberg worth that commitment and thous Klingberg took his best deal with the Ducks.
"Ducks became his best option [money wise], but term was never going to be something Ducks wanted, when they can potentially flip him and use him as a way to buy pick/prospect at deadline.

Last summer, Seth Jones signed an eight-year $76 million contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks that will kick off next season. His cap hit will be $9.5 million and includes a full no-movement clause throughout.
That's what Klingberg wanted but didn't get."
