The former first-round pick of the Flyers, Jay O'Brien, was not resigned by the team on Tuesday night, therefore the Flyers no longer possess his rights and he is now a free agent.

The Philadelphia Flyers will receive a 2024 second-round pick as payment for Jay O'Brien not being signed before his rights expired (August 15). The Flyers organization had a poor run of first-round picks, spanning from German Rubtsov, who appeared in only four games, to Nolan Patrick, who was jinxed with issues from the start, just like O'Brien did. O'Brien, 23, has had a lot of trouble with his performance and injuries, and he hasn't been able to live up to his draft status. The Flyers, however, are in a rebuild so they won't be able to complain about a second-round pick, even if it means sacrificing a potential. With that, let's glance at the Flyers' existing draft picks for the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft.
The orange and black will now have a total of four draft choices in the initial firsttwo rounds given that the compensatory pick is included.

As the season advances, Danny Briere and company might be looking to acquire more high-draft picksto add totheir already blossoming prospectpool. Ivan Demidov, a teammate of Matvei Michkov who is projected to bea high prospect in 2024, is a player who aims to make an impact. He netted 19 goals & had 43 assists for an overall 62 points at the young age of 16.
Danny Briere and company should be hunting for more high draft picks as the season goes along, which would just add to an already blossoming prospect pool. A player who is draft eligible in 2024, and is looking to make a splash, is Matvei Michkov's teammate, Ivan Demidov -- At the age of 16 years old, he had 19 goals with 43 assists, for 62 points across 41 games played in the MHL for SKA-1946 St. Petersburg.
Considering that they obtained a top-10 protected selection from the Florida Panthers in a trade including Claude Giroux and Owen Tippett a year ago, the Flyers should not have any trouble acquiring a high draft pick this year. Additionally, the Flyers lost two significant contributors, Kevin Hayes & Ivan Provorov, which might lead to the team fallinginto the bottom six this coming season. Something that is to be anticipated for a team that is nevertheless in the process of rebuilding. They will not be any lower considering John Tortorella and Danny Briere believe that tanking is unprofessional and inefficient the majority of the time.
At the moment, the orange and black have a pair of selections in each of the first, second, and sixth rounds, and at least one pick in each of the seven rounds. The NHL Draft in 2024 is a little smaller in scale than the one before, with five of the top 10 prospects in 2024 being defensemen, which suggests it will bedefensive-heavy.Therefore, the Flyers might have greater options assuming they have two picks near each other. Boosting the defensive assets within the club is very important, especially on therightside.
Due to former general manager Ron Hextall's poor selection of Jay O'Brien in the2018draft,Danny Briere will be granted a pick andhopes to steer clear of pastmistakes and draftmore exceptional prospects into the Flyers organization.
