It is now August 15th, and the Philadelphia Flyers will receive a 2nd round pick for their troubles.

The Philadelphia Flyers selected Jay O'Brien, a Ron Hextall pick, in the first round of the 2018 NHL Draft. However, come April 2023, Danny Briere and the Flyers' new regime have opted not to sign the Boston University player.
The Flyers have officially gained a 2024 second round draft pick, as Jay O'Brien obviously was not signed. He is officially a free agent

The team will allow O'Brien to test free agency while the team receives a compensatory second-round draft pick in the 2024 NHL draft.
O'Brien just finished his senior season at Boston University and was not producing as a 1st round pick would be expected to grow, compared to fellow Flyers draft pick Devin Kaplan.
O'Brien has spent three years in the Boston University system, posting 26 goals and 70 points in 79 games.
