Last summer Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher would make a blockbuster deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, trading away winger Jakub Voracek in exchange for Cam Atkinson.
Despite being on the last place team in the Metropolitan Division Atkinson put up 23 goals, and 27 assists in 73 games last-season. Atkinson finished 2nd in goals just one behind leading goal score James van Riemsdyk who had 24 goals last-season.
Atkinson also finished 2nd in points behind last year's leader Travis Konecny with 52 points.
With the departure of Claude Giroux Atkinson will be expected to carry a bigger role offensively this season, and will have some fun familiarity with Head Coach John Tortorella who coached Atkinson back in Columbus previously.
