After his 1000th NHL game and likely last as a Flyers, we may just have well heard Claude Giroux's final remarks before being traded. The Flyers hosted the Nashville Predators on St Patrick's day in what wound up being a high scoring and high octane 5-4 victory.

«I've seen a lot of players that I played with that I liked and I know it's tough when you leave a team, but I actually didn't realize how tough it is. I wish I knew back then but it's not something that is really fun.»
Speaking to Flyers media for what could be the last time, the captain remained honest. Just like he and management have been throughout this process.

«During the game I was trying to keep it together. It wasn't too bad, the first two periods. And then the third period hit and the crowd, my teammates, they just made it extra special,» said visibly emotional Giroux spoke at the post game media availability. «I didn't know what to expect but tonight was pretty awesome.»

At the end of the game, head coach Mike Yeo called it asset management not having Giroux on the ice to protect the lead. When asked about his thoughts on it, Giroux simply answered
«To be honest, mentally I wasn't set to be out there at the end, I believe.»
With rumors swirling around Giroux's future, and players like Owen Tippett being scratched, signs are pointing to Florida and Colorado. The trade deadline is next Monday and Flyers management is already planning to sit him out for the final two games before then.
«I had a chance to see my family and friends and I was also pretty emotional. After the game, my teammates gave me the player of the game sweater; that I didn't deserve one bit but it was a fun night and to get the win on top of it made it more special.»

Now that his 1000th game is in the books, it feels as though everyone can let out a profound and collective sigh of relief. When a player is on the last year of his contract and the team isn't meeting expectations, it's almost assured in this business that they will be traded for assets. We knew this was coming, we hated it, we dreaded it and now that it's finally over we can most definitely feel glad the torment is over.
