Up until the past week, the 2023-24 season has been an impressive one for the Flyers. Sitting above .500 and third in the Metro Division heading into the All-Star break is not a bad spot to be in at all for a young squad trying to find their identity and get the most out of the talent they have.
The last week, however, has been concerning with a multitude of circumstances both on and off the ice, as the Flyers skate into the All-Star break riding a five game losing streak.
In the last seven days, the Flyers have lost one of their most prolific offensive talents in Owen Tippett to injury as he hits the injured list, have lost their star goalie for what seems like potentially for the foreseeable future, have demoted Bobby Brink to the Phantoms, and have lost five straight games, allowing 27 goals during that stretch.

The last week has felt like the team is on the downward trend fast, comparing them to last seasons team as the problems from last season start to rear their ugly had. Lackluster defense alongside being ranked last in the powerplay is something that is not ideal for the orange and black.
One thing is for certain; this All-Star break is much needed for the Flyers. The Flyers next game isn't until Feb. 6. The Flyers will have a solid ten days to rest, reset, refresh, and regroup as they get ready for the second half of the season.
The front office has already been hard at work and preparing for the trade deadline, locking up two crucial pieces for the future in Owen Tippett and Ryan Poehling.
The Flyers still sit with a 68% chance to make the playoffs and have gotten a rough west coast trip out of the way early in the season. A great benchmark for the Flyers at the end of the season is if they can just make the playoffs. Gaining some playoff experience would be a massive confidence boost for both the young players and the Flyers fans.
