It wasn't an easy season for Kevin Hayes.

On the ice, Hayes had a slow start to his year. There was also the death of his brother, Jimmy, in the summer. And during the season, Kevin Hayes has also dealt with injuries.

However, and despite all of those challenges, the big center persevered and since his return to the lineup in March, he is playing extremely well. And that's why Hayes is the Flyers' nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, which is given to the player that exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication.

Here's what Flyers' GM Chuck Fletcher had to say on this.

"Kevin is an excellent choice and is deserving of this nomination. To return from both the physical and emotional challenges he faced this season speaks volumes about his character as a person, but also his commitment to our club and to his teammates," said Fletcher.

This season, Hayes has 30 points in 45 games. The last Flyer to have won this award was Oskar Lindblom.
