Recently, the Columbus Blue Jackets have made significant additions to their team by signing Damon Severson, and Ivan Provorov, and hiring Mike Babcock.
The team believes that these additions make them strong contenders.
One thing that also should be remembered regarding Hayes/Columbus -- Hayes has a modified NTC and can block deals to up to 12 teams.
After not clicking with Tortorella, I have my doubts Hayes would be super pumped about the idea of playing for Mike Babcock.

However, reports suggest that Kevin Hayes is not interested in joining the Blue Jackets. In fact, he has a no-trade clause in his contract that allows him to block any move to Columbus.
Some speculate that the recent hiring of Babcock may have influenced Hayes' decision. Although there was early speculation that Hayes would fit in with the team due to his connection with Rick Nash, it seems that this is not the case.
If Hayes ends up being traded, he may have to accept a lower salary, unless Briere can find another team to include in the deal to offset some of the cost.
