Leafs General Manager Makes Final Decision on Wayne Simmonds After Teams Showed No Interest

Leafs GM Kyle Dubas opted to send Wayne Simmonds down to the AHL.
In place of Simmonds, the club called up forward Pontus Holmberg. The latter doesn't stand out as an NHL roster player to stay, but Simmonds decline made the decision easier.
Simmonds was never known for his speed, and with him getting no younger, he has slowed even more.
Certainly the AHL is unfamiliar territory for Simmonds as he has played his entire career since entering the league in 2008 at the NHL level.
