Matvei Michkov's selection was a result of this
As a GM, Danny Briere's reputation has been enhanced with the selection of Matvei Michkov.
The team was unsure what would happen with Michkov after Connor Bedard, Leo Carlsson, and Adam Fantilli were off the board.
San Jose took Will Smith and Montreal took David Reinbacher instead of Michkov.
Now that Montreal had taken Reinbacher, Arizona was the only team to worry about. In this case, the team failed to use their draft management properly, as they could have picked Michkov instead of Simashev.

Michkov was also on Washington's radar, but they failed to make use of their ability to move up in the draft, resulting in their failure.

In contrast to the Flyers, many NHL GMs may not have had scouts in Russia, so they were hesitant to invest in the prospect. Therefore, many teams, like the Flyers, would've drafted him based on a guess rather than scouting him and interviewing him.
In Michkov, Briere acquired a generational talent after Michkov dropped six picks.
It is Michkov who now provides the Flyers with their star power.
