After accepting his jersey, Michkov spoke to the media for the first time with the help of a Russian translator. He displayed intense emotions and even burst into tears as he realized that his late father would never see him put on the jersey.
A mystery surrounds the death of his father, Andrei Michkov. The story goes that 20 minutes after his father left their home on April 2nd near Sochi, Matvei received an odd and cryptic phone call from an unknown individual. Sadly, Andrei was found dead at the age of 51.
Michkov needs to remain with the KHL as he has a binding contract for another three seasons. It will set him on course for 2026 when he will be 21 years old.
Barring any setbacks, this could be advantageous for the Flyers, who are rebuilding. It will give Michkov time to play against men, continue his development, and be ready for his NHL debut.
