It has been several months since Matvei Michkov was drafted by the Flyers in the first round, 7th overall. Much was made of this draft pick, as numerous teams had passed on him during the opening minutes of the first round, leaving many wondering who would select him.

The Flyers did not hesitate and chose him for his incredible puck-handling skills and overall skill set. His hunger for scoring was also a significant factor in their decision.
Since then, there have been several reports regarding his attitude towards his head coach and the rest of the management team, which resulted in him being benched for a few games. While there was wide speculation, it was also reported that he was transferred to HC Sochi, where he has been receiving significant ice time and accumulating points.
During tonight's game against Severstal in the Kontinental Hockey League, Michkov put on a dazzling display of his skills while his team was in the offensive zone.

Michkov's arrrival has given his team a boost and Sochi is 9-4 on the season. They won their game 4-3. He had one goal on the night.
Even though Russia is currently embroiled in a conflict with Ukraine, it is widely expected that Michkov will come to North America within the next three years, after fulfilling his contract with the KHL. If he continues to perform at this level and gains three years of experience, this bodes well for the Flyers, and we will give this pick a fantastic grade.
