The 47 year old played 14 seasons in the NHL beginning in 1996 and he retired from playing in 2011. The hiring of Grier is hopefully a fresh start for the San Jose Sharks, who have struggled in recent years. Hopefully, he can return this team to the respected franchise it was during the Thornton and Marleau era.
After retirement, Grier had off ice jobs, including spending two seasons with the New Jersey Devils as an assistant coach.
