Those who choose to broadcast NHL games from ice level have encountered some difficult situations; they are left unprotected, much like the players on the benches. However, unlike athletes, broadcasters do not dress in full gear.

Last night, the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Ottawa Senators 7-0. Former NHL player turned commentator Jamal Mayers was struck in the head by a puck during the game.
Jamal Mayers needed six stitches, but he quickly returned to broadcasting the game after receiving medical attentionbecause he sure is hockey tough!
You have to wonder why the NHL doesn't provide glass protection throughout the ice-level broadcaster areas on the ice? Maybe in the future they'll implement something, but hopefully before anything too serious happens.
