North Korea is set to make its comeback to international sports this fall. The country will be sending seven judo athletes, as well as their men's and women's U23 football teams, to the 2022 Asian Summer Games.
This return to international sports suggests that North Korea is likely to rejoin IIHF competition, with expectations of participating in the D3B IIHF Men's World Championship and D2B IIHF Women's World Championship.
The team had withdrawn from numerous tournaments since their last appearance in 2019, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as the primary reason. This hiatus has resulted in a drop in rankings, with North Korea currently ranking 56th out of 58 on the Men's side (compared to 40th previously) and 43rd out of 44 on the Women's side (compared to 27th previously).
