Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl signing with the Philadelphia Flyers - a major possibility arises
Taking a shot at one of the best players in the NHL would require the Philadelphia Flyers to consider ditching some rostered players.
With
Leon Draisaitl, you have a 100-point forward, a game-breaker, and a power forward who can do it all.
If Danny Briere wanted Leon Draisaitl, what should he consider giving up? For starters, he could opt not to re-sign Marc Staal, allowing him to free up $1.1 million in cap space.

Staal has not been the leader the team expected and has not been a major contributor. As a next step, they should consider trading
Travis Sanheim.
As a result of losing Sanheim, the team would be able to promote a younger defenseman.
By freeing up Sanheim's contract and getting assets in return, the Flyers would have enough cap space to sign Leon, since Sanheim's AAV is $6.25 over the next eight years.

@charlieo_conn
please write a piece about how if we sell sanheim (like we should anyway) after this year and dont re-sign marc staal we could get Draisaitl next year
If Briere is smart enough, he might consider locking down Draisaitl instead of turning him into a rental for next season, since his AAV on his current contract is $8.5 million over the next two years.
You need winning pieces to win, and unfortunately, Couturier isn't going to do it alone.
