In his inaugural year as the general manager of the Flyers, Danny Briere appears to have hit a home run with his NHL draft selection at 7th overall. Several NHL teams shied away from Matvei Michkov due to various reasons, including the ongoing troubles his home country is facing with the rest of the world while they fight the Ukrainians.

His start in the KHL season did not go as well as he hoped; he was loaned to Sochi after experiencing difficulties with finding playing time and clashing with his coach. Since that move, his numbers have been going through the roof, displaying the talent he possesses and what he will bring to the Flyers when his contract with the KHL comes to an end in three years.
In the past 25 games of this season with Sochi, he has accumulated 11 goals with 13 assists for 24 points, including a three-point night against Lada Togliatti. It's no surprise that he was named to the All-Star team. What adds a little icing on the cake is that Michkov appears to be outpacing a former KHL superstar who plays for the Flyers' rival team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, namely Evgeni Malkin.

With his numbers and trajectory, Michkov now has the highest-ever points per game for a player under 20 years old. These statistics are quite attractive and satisfying for the Flyers' management team. Over the next few years, the Flyers will continue their rebuilding phase and add more talent to a deepening pool.
The Flyers have eight draft choices over the next two drafts in the first three rounds, including two first-round picks in 2024. Flyers fans will have to wait and see what Briere has in store.
