Undoubtedly,n this day 13 years ago, the Philadelphia Flyers made one of the worst trades in the franchise's history.

As a result, the Flyers would send Simon Gagne, one of the alternate captains at the time, to Tampa Bay for a 4th round pick (Marcel Nobels) and another player (Matt Walker).
13 years ago today, Philly would ship away Simon Gagne to Tampa Bay in exchange for Matt Walker and a 2011 4th Rounder (Marcel Nobels)

I think Paul Holmgren has the most significant responsibility for this trade, as he was General Manager at the time.
During that time, I assume that Gagne was a member of the Yzerplan in Tampa Bay since Gagne would later play for the Lightning alongside Martin St. Louis, Steven Stamkos, and Vinny LeClavier.
While Matt Walker was excited to play for the Flyers, he would only have the opportunity to play in 8 games in the NHL as a Flyer while having the chance to play in 44 games for the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League.
Holmgren believed Walker could eat minutes and not be a liability. He is correct since it's hard for someone to be a liability when he isn't playing in the NHL.
