General manager Chuck Fletcher has repeated over the last number of weeks that the Flyers are heading to what he refers to as an «aggressive retool.»

It's a term that has gained much traction within the media due to its meaning. As for myself, I don't know what it means but I gather it will mean several players will be traded at the deadline.
One such player who comes to mind would be James Van Riemsdyk. The 33-year-old left winger has had a surge of offense since returning from injury with a broken finger. JVR certainly holds some value with his contract ending this season and carrying a $7 million cap hit.

One team that could benefit from a trade like this would be the Colorado Avalanche. This team has suffered major injuries throughout the season very similar to the Flyers and is still in contention to make the playoffs. Currently, they sit in the first wildcard spot with several teams very close to their point total.
A player like JVR could help them solidify this spot and give their offense some much-needed help. Colorado also has several good young players that could be offered to make a deal possible and help the Flyers improve their young core. Alex Newhook's name has been mentioned in trade rumors recently throughout the NHL.
Another scenario is possibly using JVR in a larger deal to offset salary to acquire a need such as a first-line center. A team that could benefit from JVR would be the Vancouver Canucks, they certainly have a commodity that could be traded in Bo Horvat, and the salaries similar would make it easier for that deal to be done. JVR could be a fit for the Canucks in the future for his leadership and veteran presence for this young team.
With both organizations mentioned having a good stock of young players these teams would be good trading partners with the Flyers. We will wait and see what general manager Fletcher has in mind, but I think JVR's days with the Flyers are numbered.
