Penguins denied chance to speak to three GM potential candidates
In a surprising turn of events, the Pittsburgh Penguins were denied permission to speak with three highly sought-after candidates for their vacant general manager position.
Elliotte Friedman of "32 Thoughts," mentioned the Penguins were unsuccessful in their attempts to interview former Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving, Jeff Greenburg of the Chicago Blackhawks, and Ryan Martin of the New York Rangers.
The Penguins, who recently fired Brian Burke, held President of hockey operations and former goaltender and general manager of the Flyers Ron Hextall, have been creating a list of up to 12 candidates to interview for the GM position.

Some names include Peter Chiarelli the former general manager of the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers, former Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin and up and coming assistant general manager from the Carolina Hurricanes Eric Tulsky.
While the reasons behind the denials remain undisclosed, it is not uncommon for teams to deny permission for interviews, especially when the individuals in question are under contract or in positions within their respective organizations.
Nonetheless, this setback adds a layer of complexity to the Penguins' search for a new general manager.
The clock is ticking for the Penguins with the NHL Entry Draft just over a month away. The team will need a plan as they will decide on which path to go as their team enters a retooling or rebuilding phase.
The NHL Entry Draft will be held on June 28th and 29th.
