After being claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 9th, 2023, John Ludvig made his NHL debut against the Dallas Stars.

Ludvig, 23, was claimed by the team after being profiled as one of the best defenders in the American Hockey League last season. In terms of expected goals down and blocked shots, he had stellar stats.

A calculated error, however, would occur during the young defenseman's NHL debut.
After hitting Dallas Stars Radek Faksa, Ludvig was helped off the ice after finishing his check and it didn't appear that he made any contact with his head.
As a result, he was knocked out prior to hitting the ice, and his teammates helped him back to the locker room soon after.
The Pittsburgh Penguins claimed John Ludvig off waivers from the Florida Panthers.

Ludvig who inked a two-year two-way deal with Florida this summer was a key part of the Charlotte Checkers' penalty kill last year (9th in AHL).
The Pittsburgh Penguins flew in his parents to watch his first NHL game tonight, but no official injury has been reported.
