Well, we understand a little bit more why the Flyers went after John Tortorella.

It seems like Torts' wasn't the first choice for the management, even though some people like Bobby Clarke and Paul Holmgren preferred Tortorella to become the leader behind the Flyers' bench.
According to Anthony SanFilippo, Barry Trotz narrowed down his potential landing spots on Monday. The Flyers made him an offer (which was for more than 7M$ per year) but the former Islanders coach refused it.
"According to two Flyers sources, Trotz, who started narrowing down his potential landing spots Monday, turned down an offer from the Flyers early on Tuesday, which led to the Flyers pivoting to Tortorella (...) the Flyers contract offer would have allegedly made Trotz the highest paid coach in NHL history (I don't have exact figures, but one source indicated that the offer was for more than $7 million each year)," wrote San Filippo.
