The Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers are considered rivals in the Eastern Conference and have had some insane battles over the years, but they've also worked together to make various trades, including the James Van Riemsdyk for Luke Schenn trade back in the day.

The two have had trade discussions this season with the Toronto Maple Leafs being in a win now feeling, while the Flyers are well the farthest thing from a win now team, sitting 7th in the Metropolitan Division.
The Leafs have already shown interest in re-acquiring forward Jame Van Riemsdyk but according to a Toronto source the Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas is interested in Flyers forward Scott Laughton. This was also discussed by Hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman who too would discuss a possible Leafs trade for Laughton.

One name that was brought up on The Leafs Report with James Mirtle and Jones Siegel was Scott Laughton. They had NHL insider Elliotte Friedman on to talk about names surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs, and one player that he mentioned was Laughton. He said "one of the guys that I've always wondered about with Toronto.... is Scott Laughton"

He then went on to mention that the Maple Leafs need players who are tough to play against, and Laughton would fit that mould for them. He also brought up past rumours about if Laughton didn't sign the extension with the Flyers, where he would have gone. He continued to talk about how there were rumours that he was going to sign with Toronto or Ottawa. Instead, he chose to return to Philadelphia but acknowledges that there is a fit between Laughton and the Maple Leafs.

Laughton would be brought in to play on the Leafs 3rd or 4th line in more of a shut down role, but can also add some offence with 12 goals, and 19 assists in 52 games this season. Laughton also has 3 more years left on his current contract that pays him $3 million dollars annually until the end of the 2025-26 season.
