Concerns Mount for the Flyers as Samuel Ersson Assumes Starting Goalie Role

With Carter Hart sidelined due to injury, the Philadelphia Flyers have turned to Samuel Ersson as their starting goaltender. However, early statistics are raising concerns about Ersson's performance in the net.
Ersson currently holds the second-worst Goals Saved Above Expectation (GSAx) in the league this season, with a GSAx of -6.79. This statistic reflects the number of goals a goaltender has allowed compared to what would be expected based on the quality of shots faced.
In his four starts this season, Ersson has posted a 3.90 Goals Against Average (GAA) and an .815 Save Percentage (SV%). These numbers are less than stellar and have led to doubts about his ability to anchor the Flyers' defense.

It's worth noting that Ersson's GAA and SV% now place him in a similar category as San Jose Sharks goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood, who has yet to secure a win in the 2023-24 season. The Sharks have faced defeat in all 11 of their games played, and Ersson's performance aligning with Blackwood's in this regard is cause for concern among Flyers fans.
As the Flyers navigate this challenging period without Carter Hart, the spotlight will undoubtedly be on Samuel Ersson as they seek improvement in their goaltending to turn their fortunes around.
