Morgan Frost was the lone RFA-qualified player that "held out" the longest on his newest contract this past summer; inking his newest deal just days before the Flyers opened their 2023/24 training camp. While the move surely didn't help with head coach John Tortorella's opinion of the player it is also not what has seemed to be the sole driving influence of it, either.

Tortorella's apparent ire toward the forward began last year when Frost got off to a slow start to the season. The young forward struggled, causing the coach to have some rough and at times strange comments about his overall play. Eventually, he righted the ship and was the Flyers best-scoring forward from about mid-December until the season ended last year. However, first impressions are a big thing in life and seem to be an even bigger thing with Tortorella. The coach has seemingly not forgotten the start of last season and is not allowing Frost to live it down.
It's no secret Torts has his favorite players. Guys like Kevin Hayes and Tony DeAngelo are no longer Flyers because they were so far off of the coaches' "favorites" list they couldn't even be numbered. Unfortunately, Frost seems to be among the players on the "non-favorites" list and may be closer to the unnumberable portion of the list. Despite not playing horribly in the 10 games he has played thus far this season, he has not been able to climb any closer to the coaches' "favorites" list being outranked by newcomers Bobby Brink and Tyson Foerester for a lineup spot in every game he has sat thus far. Knowing how rough around the edges and hard to convince Torts is, the unfortunate reality for Frost is that he likely never will crack the "favorites" list.
So with all of that in mind, could it be time for Flyers GM Danny Briere to start weighing his options on the trade market to see if there's a move he could potentially make that involves Frost that will not only benefit the player but also benefit the Flyers in the future?

I won't discuss what I think a trade should or could look like because I have no inside knowledge. I'm watching the situation unfold just as the rest of the fanbase. I have no idea what Briere has or has not done where the whole Frost situation is concerned. What I do know is that the Flyers have now played 20 games, we're beyond the American Thanksgiving holiday; which is always a 'milestone' point for teams, and a player who could be helping the Flyers offense is sitting in the press box because the head coach clearly dislikes him for some reason.
The coach is human, and like all other humans, he is entitled to like and dislike whomever and whatever he chooses, but at a certain point it's up to the team's front office; and more specifically the team's GM, to make a move that will not only benefit the player in question, but also the team's future.
The biggest question now is given what we know of the Frost situation; which admittedly is not a whole lot other than the blatantly obvious, have we reached the point of weighing all the options? And if we haven't, at what point should they start to consider doing so?
