It was announced on April 24, 2023 that Justin Braun, a former defenseman for the Philadelphia Flyers, had retired from the NHL after a successful 13-year career.

However, just two months later, Braun decided to make a comeback and signed with the German team, Straubing Tigers, for the 2023-2024 season.
During his NHL career, Braun played for the San Jose Sharks, Philadelphia Flyers, and New York Rangers.
He accumulated 199 points, including 34 goals and 165 assists, in a total of 842 NHL games.
Braun was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, which he ultimately retired from just two weeks after the end of the regular season.
