There's no doubt Ron Hextall was one of the greatest Philadelphia Flyers goaltenders of all time. However, as the Philadelphia Flyers General Manager not so much
Philadelphia Flyers Legend Bobby Clarke would share a story on the popular NHL podcast show "The Cam & Strick Podcast" and would reveal not only Hextall's worse decision as the Flyers GM but quite possibly the worse decision in franchise history.
Clarke did not mince words when talking about the job former GM Ron Hextall did during his time running the Philadelphia Flyers especially when it came to the 2017 NHL draft.
In 2017 the Philadelphia Flyers had the 2nd overall pick in the draft which is huge that's when your almost certain to get a high end top player for your team. However, back then the entire Philadelphia Flyers organization other then Ron Hextall wanted to draft defenceman
Cale Makar as the pick for the draft.

"None of our scouts wanted Nolan Patrick. I don't know where Patrick should have gone, after his performances in Brandon he's a pretty good player. But certainly, they wanted Makar. Of course, he went next. Now, he's a superstar and Patrick hasn't played. But Hextall made that choice himself, and there were other choices that were made at our drafts that we're paying for.
We end up getting the second pick in the draft, and we end up drafting Nolan Patrick," explained Clarke.
We have two or three first-round picks that are never going to play, and that's why we're struggling. Hextall made some huge mistakes.»
Clarke clearly has some pent-up feelings about the way Hextall conducted business during his time at the helm, and understandably so if Hextall listened to Clarke they would of had one of the best players in the NHL.
