However, Bedard's inspiring story extends far beyond his hockey prowess. Dan Robson of The Athletic recently shared a poignant article shedding light on the profound loss that fuels this young phenom. Bedard's motivation to excel on the ice stems from his beloved grandfather, Garth, who tragically lost his life in a car accident caused by an impaired driver.

In a deeply touching gesture, Bedard's family and the Pats' front office chose to withhold the heartbreaking news from him, allowing him to play in a game. Remarkably, Bedard scored two goals and provided two assists, earning the first star honors. Only after the game concluded did he learn of his grandfather's passing.
Bedard's response to this devastating news is a testament to his character and resilience. He expressed, "Grandpa would want me to play." Just three nights later, he scored an overtime goal, leading his team to victory over the division-leading Brandon Wheat Kings. Bedard dedicated the win to his late grandfather, stating, "He's definitely who I play for now and will for the rest of my life."
While Bedard's hockey skills are undeniably impressive, it is his profound heart and unwavering determination that truly make him a star. Though Grandpa Garth may no longer be physically present, his spirit will undoubtedly watch over Bedard with immense pride as he continues to pursue his dreams on and off the ice.
