According to NHL source and Sportsnet's Elliot Friedman, two failing clubs considered a trade, but one player involved in the deal refused to go to one of the destinations, so he was instead sent down to the AHL.

According to Friedman, the agreement involved sending the defenseman Tyler Myers to the Ottawa Senators in return for shipping Nikita Zaitsev to Vancouver. However, Zaitsev declined because of his NMC (no-movement clause), which listed the Canucks as one team he will NOT be dealt to.
Prior to being released by the Ottawa Senators a few weeks ago, Zaitsev was discovered privately contacting a Senators fan and threatening him. The whole thing was a fiasco, and Zaitsev's parents even messaged and harassed the Sens fan, calling him fat and other derogatory terms, all because the Sens fan posted a meme that made a slight jab at Zaitsev's skill, but as an NHL player, you have to learn to ignore the hatred.
It's unfortunate that Zaitsev is still in the minors and won't have a chance to join the Senators' roster, but you should never take competing in the NHL for granted!
