The long-awaited rebuild of the Philadelphia Flyers has begun in full force. General manager Danny Briere made his first splash in his first year as a GM full-time when he moved longtime Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a three-team deal with the LA Kings.

This trade signalled the beginning of the end of the current roster that the Flyers have had for the past four to five years.
With the NHL draft less than a week away, the trade market will continue to heat up as teams are willing to part ways with assets and other key players to help bolster themselves and give others what they need.
The dailyfaceoff.com 's Frank Seravalli released his Top 40 trade candidates before the NHL draft. Interestingly, about this list is that six Flyers made it. Another point to this is that all the names mentioned are the core of the Flyers themselves.
Must read on FlyersInsider
Kevin Hayes, Travis Konecny, Carter Hart, Tony DeAngelo, Scott Laughton and Travis Sanheim were all mentioned in his list. Some names make sense when it comes to a rebuild such as Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny as the centre UFA market is thin and some teams are desperately needing a centre where Kevin Hayes can fill that role.
With his $7.1 million cap hit, a team could take most of that with them. The Flyers would need to take back a bad contract at a lesser value to help make the money work.
TK is one of the Flyers' best trading chips. Having had one of his best productive seasons on a team that had such a hard time scoring goals shows that he is poised to explode offensively while being defensively responsible. If the Flyers choose to make a trade using TK, I expect the Flyers to get a great return that will speed up the process.
Other players I didn't expect to be on the list are Tony DeAngelo and Scott Laughton. Both players could be very effective for a rebuild as they could give the young players a chance to understand how to play as a flyer had also given them some leadership and veteran presence that they could use.
DeAngelo had a tough year with Tortorella it did not give
flattering numbers which means his trade value isn't as high as it should be. Laughton on the other hand could be valuable to some teams and at $3 million for a cap hit is very affordable and could be valuable for a team willing to make a push for the playoffs.
Carter Hart, in my opinion, is the best trading piece the Flyers have. Having a number-one starting goaltender that can win games and steal games for you is the best asset. The Flyers have a few goalies in their system that could step in and fulfill the role meaning Hart can be moved even though many fans do not feel it's needed.
There have been rumours that Hart has no interest in being involved in a rebuild and will not sign with the Flyers after his contract ends next year. The Flyers will need to move on from him and find him a new home.
Finally, it comes down to Travis Sanheim the name that shocked me that they would be willing to move. Not because he's a bad player, it's because his contract is so bad that I have a hard time believing a team would be willing to take him on. He's also been less engaged with his current team which has given head coach Johns Tortorella fits.
Sanheim hasn't yet begun an eight-year, $50 million pact signed by Chuck Fletcher last October on the eve of the regular season. Given where the Flyers are heading, it makes almost zero sense to pay a defenseman for eight years through his 35th birthday. The big question: Given the thin free-agent crop, would a team sign Sanheim to that contract if he hit the free-agent market? The answer is likely yes, as it will look more and more reasonable as the cap continues to increase. What could the Flyers get? The value may be in not having Sanheim on their books at all. The play would be to move Sanheim before his full no-trade' clause kicks in on July 1.

We will have to see what Briere has in store for this team but with all of these core players essentially available, he has made it clear that he's willing to make a trade or two on a large scale that will alter the franchise for good.
