The tenure of Chuck Fletcher as the general manager and president of hockey operations of the Flyers has always been a head-scratching moment from the moment he took the job.
After being with the Minnesota Wild for several years, the Flyers felt that he was the right man for making the Flyers competitive and taking them to the next level.
Fletcher was at the helm of the Flyers from April 23rd, 2018, until March 10th, 2023. During those five years, numerous deals that he made left many fans wondering why he would make such moves.

It became painfully clear that the Flyers needed to go in a different direction and that a rebuild was in order after the Flyers failed to make the playoffs, and the team looked out of sorts.
Fletcher had ample opportunity to sign
Johnny Gaudreau to a contract, as Gaudreau expressed his interest in signing with the Flyers due to the proximity to his home state. Fletcher never called him once, and he elected instead to go to the Columbus Blue Jackets, which was a slap in the face for most Flyers fans.
Fletcher also moved several draft choices, including the first, two seconds, one-third, and fourth in other deals, to bring in Risto and DeAngelo, then signed him to a large deal of 5 million dollars or more.
These moves became costly to the team as they managed to buy out DeAngelo, and those draft picks were necessary as the team began its rebuilding phase.
Now that the Flyers have turned the page on this disastrous time, it's widely expected that the team will continue to rebuild the team's core along with restocking the supply of prospects, should become a playoff team once again.
