Detroit Red Wings GM and Executive VP shocked us all yesterday when he announced that the team would not renew longtime head coach Jeff Blashill.

Blashill, 48, has only ever coached one team in the NHL. Having been with the Red Wings since the 2015-2016 season, the team has missed the playoffs six out of his seven seasons bench the bench.
The Detroit, Michigan native has been let go alongside assistant coach Doug Houda and goalie coach Jeff Salajko.
Since his debut season in 2015-16, the Red Wings have missed 6 consecutive postseason appearances. This year, they maintained a 32-40-10 record good for 6th in the Atlantic. Only above the Sens and Habs, being surpassed by Buffalo.
Under Blashill, the team had a 2.77 goals per game percentage and a 3.78 goals against this season. 31st in the NHL, they also held the worst penalty kill in the league with a 73.8% efficiency.
