The new Flyers management team has been busy in the last few weeks getting to know their roles and their staff along with preparing the team for one of the most important drafts in 20 years.

As the offseason moves into the next gear, trade talk begins to heat up amongst the teams. It appears Scott Laughton, the Flyers centerman who recently enjoyed winning a gold medal overseas with the world championships, has become a hot commodity for other teams.
I think General Manager Danny Briere feels that Laughton's importance is worth more than late first-round draft picks. News and reports state that he has declined multiple offers including late first-round draft picks.

As a fan of the game for many years, what that tells me is that Briere has no interest in trading him but will do his due diligence as a general manager to see what kind of interest Laughton would give him if he needed to move him.
Laughton's experience and knowledge of the team will be invaluable during this rebuilding phase. The team will need a familiar face or two to help the new young players understand the system that head coach John Tortorella wants.
I suspect that Laughton will be retained over the summer and will be playing for the Flyers next year. Laughton holds a modest $3 million cap hit for the next three seasons also makes him very enticing for teams looking to push in a win-now mode.
