Upon hearing the news, Phantoms fans held a standing ovation that was lengthy during a meet-the-team event at the PPL Center.
As a professional hockey player, the 32-year-old captain has played 763 games and will enter his fourth season with the Phantoms this year.
Wilson expressed his excitement at the news and signed a two-year contract with the AHL team.
It is possible that he will catch Grey Carey's record of 277 games played with the franchise if he sticks around long enough.
He recorded 43 points, including 18 goals, in the 2022-2023 season with the Phantoms, his best season since he played with the San Antonio Rampage in 2014-2015. A unique record Wilson holds is scoring two hat tricks in the same season, once on February 20th, 2023 against the Hartford Wolfpack, and again on March 15th against the Hershey Bears.
In addition to playing in the NHL, Wilson has played for the Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh Penguins in 84 games. Over the course of ten games, he scored two goals and provided six assists for eight points, along with ten Stanley Cup playoff games.
