The NHL has Sent A Huge Memo About Changes in the League to all 32 teams
While the NFL, MLS and NBA are ahead of the NHL, Gary Bettman and the NHL have been accused of being behind the times.
However, Bettman now wants to change a tradition in the NHL that may not be viewed positively. Apparently, Bettman and the NHL are exploring a different method of conducting the NHL draft.
The NHL has officially notified teams it would like to hear their opinions on «decentralization» of the draft (having clubs stay at home while prospects attend NFL/NBA style). If there is desire for change, would most likely be in 2025 outside chance for 2024.

In the NHL draft, fans have a unique opportunity to watch players communicate with their new front office, and general manager, and trades are made amongst the hustle and bustle of the traditional setup of team tables.
The NHL and Gary Bettman have proposed ending a tradition that has been practiced up until now. Bettman would no longer announce every pick along with teams no longer being on-site while drafting from a distance.
The league has enacted changes before that no one has asked for, even if no fans have explicitly requested it.
It seems like Bettman and the NHL are just doing something, to in fact--do something.
