There is some big news sweeping across the NHL this morning that involves the NHLPA. According to Frank Seravalli, there are massive changes coming to the NHLPA in the coming days, where U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh will be appointed as the new Executive Director.
The report goes on to state that Walsh will be leaving his post in the coming days sometime after President Biden's State of the Union address and begin his work with the NHLPA. Walsh will need to be voted in by the executive board, but is expected to be voted in unanimously.
Walsh was born and raised in Boston and was the city's 54th mayor. Walsh is an interesting hire the NHLPA with many big fights looming in the future. The current CBA between the players and the league is set to expire after the 2025-2026 season. There is also a rise of awareness and concern for concussions and player safety, which can lead to a tricky new CBA process. Do you think this is a good hire?
