Just four months away from the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Matvei Michkov is proving those who passed him wrong.

Michkov was passed on by both the Arizona Coyotes and Montreal Canadiens, so the Philadelphia Flyers are geniuses for grabbing him.
Adam Fantilli, Connor Bedard, Leo Carlsson, and Zach Benson, all 2023 NHL Draft class players, are among the young players set to make an impact.
In the KHL, Matvei Michkov is lighting it up, and people wonder how he slipped past the 5th pick.

Michkov has shown why the narrative of the 2023 Draft should have been Bedard/Michkov, rather than Bedard/Carlsson since being loaned to HC Sochi from SKA St. Petersburg.
He has the highest point-per-game output of any U20 skater in the KHL since 2008-2009, with 14 points in 14 games.
The "Russian Factor" narrative runs deep in clubs, as Michkov has proven. The fact that five teams passed on Michkov after the Blackhawks first-round pick is astounding. Michkov has proven to be everything they said about him and more.
Currently, Michkov has an NHLe of 56, comparable to Mario Leimieux, Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby, Auston Matthews, and Jack Eichel when they were all drafted.
As Michkov has found his form in Sochi and is a generational talent, the Flyers were smart to work with him in order to find the best scenario to draft him, as all the rumors starting before the draft were unproven and foolish.
