The Philadelphia Flyers and NHL are embroiled in an unusual contract battle concerning goaltender Ivan Fedotov.

He signed a one-year entry-level contract with the Flyers last May but didn't play due to personal reasons, including military service in Russia. The Flyers and NHL argue that his contract should be paused and extended to this season given the circumstances.
The ruling is still awaiting, after yesterdays dispute to the KHL
However, CSKA signed him to a two-year deal in the KHL, where he aims to regain form for an NHL opportunity. The Flyers previously announced his contract would apply to the 2023-24 season.
Though he's yet to play in North America since being drafted in 2015, the Flyers believe he's ready for the leap. Fedotov and his agent await the IIHF's ruling.
