The Philadelphia Flyers traded Nolan Patrick and Phillipe Myers for a veteran player with offensive skills and experience on the power play.

"Ryan is an excellent, all-around defenseman," the Flyers' general manager said Saturday. "In our opinion, he's one of the best passers in the game on the blue line. He's great in transition, he can play the power play, he's got a heavy shot and he's a very good penalty killer.

"He had been part of the leadership group in Nashville for a while. He's a competitive, team-oriented type of player. For us, we think he's a really well-rounded hockey player, a quality person and somebody that we feel very fortunate that we were able to add to our group today."

However, the trade did not work out well for either team as the player, Ryan Ellis, sustained an injury and his time in Philadelphia has been short-lived.
Interim GM Danny Briere has had to take charge and make tough decisions to move the team's rebuild forward.
Unfortunately, Ellis has become a casualty of this leadership change and his contract is now being shopped around. It is likely that his fate will be similar to that of fellow NHL players Jakub Voracek and Shea Weber, who found new teams but will not be returning to the ice.
