The Pittsburgh Penguins' rebuild is going to be rough

A few days ago, the Pittsburgh Penguins made a blockbuster three-way team trade for defenseman Erik Karlsson.

The full trade can be seen below:
Kyle Dubas erased all the bad Ron Hextall did to the Penguins in one trade. Specifically traded Mikael Grandlund and Casey DeSmith, who are as bad as advertised. He even saved Pittsburgh $3 million in cap, and having San Jose retain $1.5 on Karlsson.

Their prospect pool is one of the weakest in the entire NHL, as well as not having a true unconditional first round pick until the year of 2026.
All of this is great... for now. The Penguins are clearly in win now mode. Their four star players; Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang, Evgeni Malkin, and Erik Karlsson, are all in their late 30s.
They're in for a long rebuild when the time comes.
